Troop Guide
Job Description:
- The troop guide works with new Scouts.
- He helps them feel comfortable
- He coordinates advancement
- He helps the patrol function on campouts
- He helps the patrol function at troop meetings.
Duties:
- Introduces new Scouts to troop operations.
- Guides new Scouts through early Scouting activities.
- Shields new Scouts from harassment by older Scouts.
- Helps new Scouts work on advancement so they might be able to earn their First Class rank no later than the end of their second year in Scouting.
- Coordinates instruction of basic Scout skills to the new Scouts.
- Coaches the patrol leader of the new Scout patrol on his duties.
- Works with the patrol leader of the new Scout patrol on campouts, at troop meetings, and at the patrol leaders' council meetings.
- Counsels individual Scouts on Scouting challenges.
- Is a voting member of the patrol leaders' council.
- Sets a good example.
Enthusiastically, consistently, and correctly wears the Scout uniform. - Lives by the Scout Oath and Law.
- Shows Scout Spirit.
- At the end of his term, passes all relevant records, material, and information to the newly appointed troop guide.
Prerequisites:
- The Scout must at least be first-class rank.
- Should have completed BSA junior leader training (JLT) course.
- Should have previously served as a patrol leader for a term.
- Must be able to regularly attend the Troop campouts.
Expectations:
- If not satisfactorily performing his duties (as determined by Scoutmaster and Assistant scoutmasters) due to poor attendance or lack of attention to responsibilities, can lose his position and not receive credit for a "position of responsibility."
Reporting/Election:
- Appointed by: Senior Patrol Leader in consultation with the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster(s) for the first-year patrol
Reports to:
- Assistant Scoutmaster for the first-year patrol.
